The 5th edition of TPG (Tokyo Project Gathering) will be held from October 19 (Mon) to 22 (Thu), 2009 at Roppongi Hills, Tokyo. For the 5th Anniversary TPG selected promising 25 projects out of over 150 submissions from 31 countries.
From Japan, TPG2009 will include two projects directed by the Japanese masters; "Ship Is Yet To Come" directed by KORE-EDA Hirokazu ("Air Doll" and "Nobody Knows") and "Yoi Ga Sametara, Uchi Ni Kaero (working title)" directed by HIGASHI Yoichi ("Village of Dreams"). Young talents will also join TPG2009. KUMASAKA Izuru, who received Best First Feature Award at the 2008 Berlin International Film Festival with "Asyl: Park and Love Hotel," will present the project for his second feature film "Family Restaurant (working title)." The selected Documentary project "Undefeated" is directed by NAKAMURA Takayuki, whose amazing documentary "Yokohama Mary" traveled around many international film festivals.
TPG2009 will present projects from renowned producers as well as acclaimed directors. NAKAZAWA Toshiaki ("Departures": 2009 Academy Award Best Foreign Language Film Award winner) will present "Jibaku (tentative)." NARAHASHI Yoko, who was involved in "Last Samurai," "Memoirs of a Geisha," and "Babel," brings a magnificent project called "Fellers (working title)."
International projects are, of course, intriguing too.
"Six Suspects" is a big project attached with the author Vikas SWARUP ("Slumdog Millionaire") and the screenwriter John HODGE ("Trainspotting" and "The Beach"). From Asia, PANG Ho-Cheung ("Isabella" and "Exodus") returns to TPG2009 as a producer. His producing project called "The Love That Dare Not Speak Its Name" is directed by Hong Kong Film Awards Best New Director nominee Heiward MAK ("High Noon"). HO Yuhang ("At the End of Daybreak" and "Rain Dogs") presents Japan/Malaysia co-production project "Dirty Verdict (working title)." CHUNG Mong-Hong, whose feature debut film "Parking" was officially selected for Un Certain Regard of the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, brings "The Fourth Portrait" to TPG2009.
